This course is discussing the ins and outs of everything you need to know about having a safe unassisted birth!
I stepped into the birth work field unknowingly, when I began research for my first baby’s birth, I knew I wanted a natural birth, which progressed into wanting a home water birth with a midwife. I was SO excited and I trusted my midwife with all my heart, I knew nothing else, I had never seen an OBGYN in my life and it just felt right with her. She treated me so well in my pregnancy and everything was easy breezy, until it wasn’t. Fast forward to the evening that I went into labor, I had prolonged early labor, my midwife transferred me to the hospital and abandoned me from that point. I did not have a traumatic birth per say, but I was definitely disturbed and disappointed. I never wanted to feel like that again. I started digging into what I could have done differently, how to have an unassisted birth next time and the rabbit hole spiraled down further into the natural parenting world.
I got in touch with a midwife that was looking for a birth assistant about a year later and she was willing to train. I immediately attended all of her meetings and was dedicated to being an assistant for her. Unfortunately, she got injured, her partner moved to a different town and she then ended up moving states shortly after, but she still guided me from afar and still does to this day, she is such an inspiration to me. She encouraged me to pursue my own birth business as a doula and I surely did. I quickly discovered in my doula work that I did not care for some of the standards they project onto new doulas and I wanted more. The more I learned about radical birth keeping, the hungrier, angrier and more passionate I became. I am so happy on the journey that has led me to being a part of the birth of this program.
